  • Contrary to our consumer culture- the main thing that baby needs is their parents! You are invaluable and more important than any gadget or gizmo out there.

  • Not really something to “pack,” but it is helpful to have an idea of which practice or provider you plan to establish care with!

  • Optional: a safety check with your local fire station! Some stations require appointments now.

  • 2-3 pairs of comfy-cozies for your stay. Onesies, beanies, mittens, a “going home outfit,” etc.

  • 2-3 burp cloths are recommended; however, the hospital is stocked with washcloths if needed.

  • Staff will provide blankets for swaddling (a keepsake!) but feel free to bring your own!

  • Some hospitals provide pacifiers; however, like diapers, feel free to bring your own if you have a brand you prefer!

Breast pumps are available at hospitals for a fee.

  • These will be require upon admittance!

  • Upon admittance, nurses will go over your birth plan to familiarize themselves with your birth philosophy and hopes!

  • Bonus points if it is an extended cord!

  • Hospital floors are chilly! I recommend both mom and dad bringing slides for comfort and mobility.

  • A personal robe / nightgown for labor, 2 pairs of cozy pajamas for postpartum, and a “going-home” outfit if desired.

  • Packing more than 1 can be helpful if any get wet during labor (in shower or tub) or if the hospital stay is extended.

Brands: SKIMS, Hatch, Kyte baby, Momcozy, Target

  • In an unfamiliar place, it is sometimes comforting to have a familiar item from home.

  • A shower + teeth brush can make ya feel like a new person! Sometimes clients will buy travel size toiletries for convenience. Brush/comb, deodorant, shampoo/conditioner, razor, personal medications, prenatal vitamins, etc!

Don’t forget nipple balm, hair ties, and chapstick!

  • For mom: easily digestible foods like dried or fresh fruit, honey sticks, granola bars, crackers, applesauce, chocolate, hard candies or gum to chew on.
For dad or other support persons: hearty snacks like trail mix, beef jerkey, granola bars, any of their usual favorite snacks!

  • Water bottles with a straw are easiest to drink from in various labor positions.

Electrolytes, coconut water, bone broth, or herbal teas can be refreshing!

  • Very helpful and comforting when back labor persists! Make sure the cord is fairly long!

  • Stroller fans can double as a labor fan! The fans with bendable legs can wrap around the hospital bed if applicable

    Brands: Gaiatop, Momcozy

  • Sometimes reading or being read to, watching a comfort show/ movie can pass the time in labor.

  • I recommend making a labor playlist or two- one that is calming and one that is inspiring! I always offer to bring my JBL speaker.

Twinkle lights and aromatherapy mist or oil diffusers can curate a relaxing atmosphere.

  • If at a hospital, these items will be provided. However, if you have brands that you prefer, feel free to bring your own!
